What is Royalty Free Music?
Royalty Free Music / Copyright Free Music or Buyout music
is a licence granting the end user / producer the right
to use music on aLL their audio/visual productions without
paying any further royalties. The music is pre cleared for
use, removing the need to pay any ‘mechanical’
synchronization/ dubbing fees ( in the UK these are termed
MCPS fees). It’s simple and cost effective saving
the producer time and money as the same music can be used
on aLL their future productions.
What does your licence cover?
Our licence covers all commercial productions worldwide
and can be used for:
Televison
Radio
Corporate Video / DVD
Training Video / DVD
Commercial Video / DVD
Point of Sale Video / DVD
Amateur/ student productions
Photographic Slideshow and Previews
Music on Hold
Media Courses
Websites and Podcasts
You pay only for the cost of the music and then you
are licensed to place it onto your production and sell
the production on to your clients or customers. You
can extend and modify the music with no restrictions
on the number of copies you wish to make of your production.
The licence has no renewal fees and covers your lifetime.
See our licence terms
What limits are there on your licence?
The licence is non transferable, so only the original
purchaser has the right synch the music. You cannot
loan or sell the music to another producer to use on
their productions.
What must I do if my production is broadcast?
Some of our composers are PRS (Performing Rights Society) members which means when a programme using their music
from our library is broadcast on TV/ Radio they should
receive a payment from PRS after the transmission of
the programme. PRS collect money on behalf of composers
from broadcasters to cover the performance of music
on their channels. As a producer of a programme it is
important to understand that you will not be paying
any further fees as it is the responsibility of the
broadcaster to pay these fees to PRS. We have granted
you the dubbing rights covered by the price of the CD
and so the only thing we ask is that if your programme
is broadcast please send the broadcaster the following
details to ensure the right composers receive the correct
royalty:
1. The track title of the music
2. The composer's name : this can be found on our cds
3. The duration of music used
This information forms part of a cue
sheet, a example of which can be downloaded
here. This information is passed onto the broadcaster
with your programme.
IT IS IMPORTANT that a copy of these details be sent
to us at info@akmmusic.co.uk
I own a shop, restaurant or I need music for on hold and want to avoid paying PRS fees
We do stock a range of quality CDs that are PRS free
and exempt from any performance royalties. This means
you can play the music in a public area and simply pay
a one off purchase price. More details and previews of PRS Free CDs
