CDs or Downloads. What's your preference?

We recently asked our existing customers if they would be upset if we ceased making our royalty free music available in CD format. The response was amazing and surprising. Turns out there would be a wholesale mutiny if we walked away from the CD format. Good thing we asked! You guys still love the CD and begged us to keep the CD format as part of our library. So we have no plans to withdraw the CD from our copyright free music range.

We exhibited at the recent Broadcast Video Expo at London Excel and this was a great opportunity to talk to our customers old and new about the endearing qaulities of the CD format. It seems the video editor still likes the hardcopy even though many confessed to simply ripping the audio to their audio workflow folder on the computer. What they did like was the archive reassurance of still owning the hardcopy just in case of a system meltdown or computer crash rendering their files useless, leaving them scrambling to locate audio files just when that edit deadline was looming.

Then there's the quality issue. You all prefer to possess your audio in cystal clear perfection. No one likes those compressed mp3's which have been squeezed of the full dynamic range. As an audiophile and someone who spends hours lingering over the sonic balance in the music studio perfecting the audio I hate the idea of my music being reduced in quality and I can actually hear the difference especially when using headphones.

However times move on and the new generation want music now and by yesterday! They want quick access and quick uploading. So downloads are in vogue. It would be foolish to ignore this. To be honest compressed files are perfectly fine for uploading video to YouTube or Vimeo as most of the time the music is being heard through small computer speakers or iphones and the full audio bandwidth has been compromised. What is important is fast uploading and fast streaming. So all our single royalty free music downloads and album downloads are mp3's at the highest rate 320kps which is CD quality and works perfectly well for online usage.

We have also overcome the anxiety about possibly losing downloaded files because in your Member Zone you will always find your download purchases ready to be re-downloaded at any time.

For TV broadcast purposes you will probably need the .wav files and these we send FOC to customers after you have downloaded the mp3 version.

So we will continue to release themed CD collections as well CD downloads and single track downloads. That's because we have listened to you.
