You would think with the thousands of royalty music tracks available on various stock library websites there would no longer be a need to hire the services of a composer to score your next video project.
More and more composers are now submitting their music to royalty free music libraries and so you could argue that they are doing themselves out of work as a hired composers.
However we believe there will always be a need to find a composer to score to picture and deliver an exclusive soundtrack to your specific brief and which fits perfectly with your video.
Endlessly searching for the perfect or right track can be a huge task and very frustrating. How many times have you previewed tracks and thought that's the one until a very loud cymbal or ear piercing guitar solo kicks in and gets in the way and ruins how it was matching visual perfectly until that point. Or your client has asked for something similar to a copyrighted track and cannot afford the budget of clearing use of the track and so you need a quality 'soundalike' . Maybe you need the track to start with a Gregorian choir slowy rising into a hip hop breakbeat and a gloriously over the top Hans Zimmer finale. Tricky stuff to find online.
So that's the beauty of approaching us and asking about the costs and methods of hiring a composer to write music to your specific brief. Most of the video producers using our royalty free music library usually find the right track for their project but there are times when hiring a composer to write music reaps enormous benefits.
It's usually the thought of costs that would put potential video producers off emailing us. However everyone who has emailed us is pleasantly surprised by the low cost and quick turnaround.
We recently were commissioned to score 2 quite different video productions. The first 'A Taste of Tasmania' was a travelogue set in Tasmania and needed a 20 minute score with various moods. The client was a ex BBC voice-over artist and he wanted an exclusive soundtrack that would enhance his beautiful images of the island of Tasmania. We received the final edit and worked directy to picture. Music cue points were sent to us with exact timing and the desired feel. The brief required to outline the historic content and breathtaking scenery. The score was signed off on first hearing. However we always send demos of work in progress to ensure we are on the right track.
This is what the client had to say about the music and process
'I have been using AKM for years for my video productions as well as for the making of voice reels for voice-over artists. I took the plunge recently to have them compose an original piece for my latest video, A Taste of Tasmania. It was done efficiently, professionally, and with a great understanding of my requirements and specifications. I think that AKM is a wonderful provider of music, reasonably priced, and offering a personal service when required, something I value highly. I would recommend this music library to anyone wanting to use music in their productions'.

The second commission completed recently was for a 2 minute animated short entitled 'DOGHOUSE'. This time the client emailed and asked the price for a 2 minute score based loosely on an existing temp track.
On quoting, the commission was given a green light and we asked for the final edit. With no voiceover the music had to carry to action of the video. Working to picture and hitting the important emotions and drama of the video, the score was warmly received. Its now won Best Original Score at an International Film Festival.
This is what the client had to say about the music
'It was a pleasure working with Anthony at AKM Music on the score for my animated short "Dog House". The brief was very specific in terms of the musical style and the need to hit certain beats during the film. Anthony delivered exactly what was required, with great communication throughout, and always on schedule'.
