Hire A Composer

I have to confess I am not a huge track and field event fan, I prefer watching football and rugby and I stress the word 'watching' ( playing is far too scary for me ) but I have to admit I have been in awe of the athletes who have taken part in this year's Commonwealth games just down the round in the fair city of Birmingham.
I have been struck by the sheer will and dedication of the sports people who sacrifice so much to compete in the games and especially the strength and courage of the para athletes taking their place in the same games to the same cheering crowds. It has been so inspirational listening and watching their stalwart efforts that I have to stand back , doff my cap and marvel at their achievements.
But it hasn't always been like this.
When I was younger, in my eyes there were those you do sports and those who do music and arts and never should they party together. Sports people looked like aliens to me with their broad shoulders, confidence and dead eye focus and concentration. There was something very scary about them. Tracksuited and clean and ridiculously tall for their age. My dislike for sports all stems from being quite rubbish at team sports and so always being picked last for teams in school. The embarassment of being left as the last boy standing and the opposing captain wishing not to pick me and would rather offer me up to the other side even if it meant a number disadvantage. The way he saw it, to have me fumbling and misfiring would be a serious handicap to his side winning. That winning at all costs was another reason why I feared them so much. So competitive. I was happy to offer myself up as a human corner flag or be sent through muddy lanes and soggy hills under the illusion I was a cross country runner.
However, now I'm thankful for all the sports types for making me find an alternative way to enjoy myself. Through them I discovered music and playing an instrument and now a lifelong journey of being a music composer.
Listening to those athletes at the games talk about the hours they put in, the sacrifices, missing family do's to attend events or not having the time to catch up with friends made me realise that maybe we do share some common attributes and experience. Just as a sports person trains hard so does a muscian. The hours have to be put in, the crafting of your discipline, perfecting your skill or speed playing. We both aim to be the best in our field. That is what drive us, to improve and get better.
I have been composing music for 30 years now and I'm still learning, still studying the masters and having eureka moments and long may it continue.
I am sure video producers, photographers all feel the same, always trying to win gold.
